Big Day - UPDATE July 27, 2015
ShadowAt the Bear Center, a Lily Fan captured video as Ted made advances toward Holly like he made toward Lucky 8 years ago. Holly responded the same way Lucky did, frolicking away, returning and, I believe, touching noses. Will she extend her friendship beyond Lucky and begin playing with Ted like Lucky did in 2007? https://www.facebook.com/andie.harveaux/ videos/1163742196985596
Shadow's cub
In the study area, community feeders called in their bear visits for the Black Bear Field Course to come watch. We caught fleeting looks at Lily and her cubs but got good pictures of gray-faced Shadow and her cub to add to the identification catalog we’re developing.
Out on the lake, the loon chicks are being fed bigger fish now that they are bigger. Instead of feeding only little minnows, they fed them the large-mouth bass, a perch, and a bluegill. The chicks were also diving and fishing, but we couldn’t tell if they caught anything because they can eat small fish underwater. Watching the parents fish undisturbed in clear, shallow water, we saw the mother suddenly rocket 30 feet faster than we thought possible to nail a large-mouthed bass the right size for a chick—maybe 7 inches long.

Good food, good group, bears, and wildlife—a fun day.
Thank you for all you do.
