Hot Day - UPDATE July 26, 2015
Lily's cub drinkingLily and cubs were at one of the community feeding stations today, staying mostly in the shade and panting on this 90°F degree day. This station had a tub that one of her cubs drank from giving us a look at how she is growing. Lily drank and stood in it for awhile, then followed her cubs into the woods, panting (mouth open) as she left, showing her sleek new coat.
At another feeding station, nice Guy shared his food with an eastern chipmunk, showing mutual trust. Both bears and chipmunks have the intelligence and willingness to assess risks and benefits and develop trust where it is warranted.
