Searching for Dot – UPDATE August 16, 2013
UrsulaLast night, by the time Jim Stroner found Dot’s signal outside her usual area, it was too close to dark to start a long walk. By this morning, she had moved. The search continued. We are spoiled by the GPS units that show where bears are for comparatively easy battery changes. Dot’s GPS never restarted after the batteries were changed Tuesday. Jim eventually got a faint signal but then couldn’t hear it again. He spent the rest of the day looking. More tomorrow.
Aster is still oddly north of Hwy 169 and has now moved east into 3-year-old Star’s territory.
LilyWe’ve begun to prepare for the bear hunt (which begins Sept 1) by tying brightly-colored ribbons on the radio-collars. The last bear course group made up the 4-ply duct tape ribbons for us and Jim Stroner has managed to get them on Ursula, Juliet, and Lily so far.
Lynn spent the day working on a publication and answering reporters’ questions spurred by “information” from DNR officials. This is why we are so looking forward to the administrative hearing.
JulietWhen Lynn stopped by the Bear Center today, people coming out gathered beside his van to say how much they learned in the Center and ask if the DNR officials who are opposing us have ever been there. Other than a couple brief meetings with DNR officials held at the Bear Center, our invitations to visit have been ignored. The visitors asked why DNR officials prohibited broadcast of the Den Cams and why they were making it unfeasible to share the Den Cams with over 500 classrooms that have been following the Den Cams for years. Lynn gave them the answer he wrote in the June 28 update at http://www.bearstudy.org/website/updates/daily-updates/2037-permit-issues-june-28-2013-.html and in the August 1 update at http://www.bearstudy.org/website/updates/daily-updates/2071-shylow-and-den-cams-update-august-1-2013-.html.
Thank you for your support! We see you put the legal fund over $50,000!
Thank you for all you do.
