Quill, Nature Notes - UPDATE October 18, 2016

I think Quill came to his feeding spot a couple times, but I wasn't there to see him.  I took the camera with the long lens in case I saw the wary little guy before he vamoosed.Blue jay flying upBlue jay flying up

ChickadeeChickadeeAlong the way, a squirrel was rustling under a brush pile that had been burned a year ago. Then he emerged with a cone that I think is a balsam fir cone. It is so black, I think it was burned. The squirrel removed several of the basal parts before moving back under the brush pile with it. I couldn't see perfectly, but I think the squirrel buried it.

A chickadee seemed comfortable at my feet, which made me wonder if it is one of the tame ones that will eat from a person's hand. I haven't had time to see if any will, though.

CrowCrowBack at the cabin, up on the third floor deck, a lone crow sitting on a branch looked at me with its intelligent eye but didn't immediately fly away like these super wary birds usually do. When it did fly, it had a moment of trouble hanging on to the branch where it landed. I think it's sick.

A sharp-eyed Lily Fan noticed that I forgot to mention that Kimani and her two cubs were at the WRI the evening of the 14th. I haven't seen them since, but they had been coming in after I go home.

Thank you for all you do.
