Quill, Tasha Christmas Card, Pavilion - UPDATE October 19, 2016
Lily Fans have been praying. People who care in this community have been praying. Little Quill needed a miracle. I saw him today without quills.
PavilionI'm not asking anyone too many questions. I'm just happy to see that something happened.
It reminds me of other times residents of this caring community stepped up to help bears.
I remember September 3, 2011 when we and a resident had heard June's cubs yelling for help from a building foundation where they found themselves trapped. Together, with June standing with us, we lowered a ladder for her cubs Aster and Aspen to climb out. Here is a video of this rescue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bETxZfOvyHY.
I remember residents making a futile attempt to save Solo from the DNR in January 2008. Although Governor Pawlenty had announced a reprieve for Solo on the radio, she ended up dead when the DNR repeatedly drugged her during a 450-mile road trip that ended with her being carried (drugged) to a den where she was later found dead.
2016 holiday card with TashaI hope residents' effort to save little Quill turns out better. I hope he continues to visit feeding stations to fatten for hibernation. We know from a previous study that orphaned cubs instinctively know how to make dens. I hope the best for the little guy. I'll keep you all informed the best I can.
At the Bear Center, this structure that looks like a six-legged spider will turn into a beautiful swan in the spot where LilyPad Picnickers have our annual marshmallow roast. It will be a pavilion with picnic tables for Bear Center visitors and summer Day Camp participants.
Tasha is the beautiful bear on our Christmas Card that will be available in a couple weeks for Lily Fans who want to spread the good word along with Christmas cheer. Tasha's story is on the back. The inside says "Wishing you a holiday filled with peace, joy and hope" and a soft snowy image that can be written on.
Thank you for all you do.
