An 8-year Anniversary and a Welcome Face - UPDATE January 22, 2018
Precious Hope
Today is the 8th anniversary of perhaps the biggest bear event of my career. Lily gave birth to Hope at 11:36 AM on January 22, 2010. These two bears brought people together to learn about black bears, creating the biggest worldwide bear project we know. They changed the attitudes of thousands, perhaps millions, through the internet and documentaries. It is largely because of them that so many of us are together today.
Lily and Hope on 4/24/10The photo of Lily hugging Hope is my favorite. It illustrates the feelings that bears have, and is extra meaningful knowing all the ups and downs they had. I’m hoping to have it available in the gift shop as a 9 by 10. It’s from a video and not high enough resolution to blow up big for the Bear Center wall.
Lily Fans captured videos of Lily and Hope that bring back good memories including the annoying buzz that we eventually got rid of:
1. A 4 ½ minute video of Hope’s birth on January 22, 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBNtANbW5vE&ab_channel=PixController
2. A 27-second video of the first view of Hope on February 3, 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwV1EbvL18o&ab_channel=LindaGibson

3. A 6-minute video of the “sinking cub” as Hope pops up and sinks into Lily’s fur on Feburary 7, 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKxlVy61oL8&ab_channel=LindaGibson

4. A 7:24-minute video of Hope not amused by bath time at 4 weeks on February 22, 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoA_-ZwewnI&t=52s&ab_channel=LindaGibson
5. A 6-minute video of my visit on March 3, 2010 that gave us a good look at Hope at 5 weeks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfmxDByCU4s
6. Finally, a Hope Memorial Music Video with many pictures of Hope https://youtu.be/clMDHDz5V2o
We’ll never forget Hope and her bittersweet story with Lily.

| Pine Marten | ||
Out the window, the very welcome face of the pine marten appeared,
Red squirrelI think the female but would need photos to compare which I don’t have access to due to a computer/server problem. Glad to see her/him visiting her familiar spots. I grabbed the camera. Earlier a red squirrel looked at me in a way that I couldn’t help snapping.
Thank you for all you do.
