Facebook, Familiar Faces, Parents, 3 Bears - UPDATE January 18, 2018

Out the window, it was the familiar faces. A white-breasted nuthatch looking for sunflower seeds. A hoary redpoll chewing up the same. ChickadeeChickadeeA watchful chickadee checking to see if it was safe to dash in for a seed. And a doe and fawn pausing to check their surroundings while looking for any remaining kernels of corn.

In checking pictures today, I had some good memories seeing pictures of my nature-loving parents who adopted me as a baby and encouraged my interest in nature as I grew up. These are pictures of my mother Lylamae and father Adelbert when I was about 21, and my mother Lylamae and Donna when I was about 41. So thankful.

I ended up watching the 1-hour documentary ‘A Tale of Three Bears” today and hadn’t remembered how good it is. It held my attention every moment for the full hour as the BBC wove together so many wonderful shots of the bears narrated perfectly by Julia Bradbury. It featured Juliet with Sam, Sophie, and Sybil with a lot of great footage of Jewel with Fern and Herbie and June with Aster and Aspen. They took the best shots of all their filming here and put them together masterfully. The great thing about this masterpiece is how much information about bears is woven into scene after scene. It is good for all ages. We’ll be showing this in the Bear Center theatre and to participants in the Black Bear Field Courses if the bears give us any down time.

As many Facebook users may already know, changes to the algorithm affecting what users see in their news feed have been implemented. In many ways this is a positive move. It means less ads and less content from businesses—and more posts from family and friends. However, with these changes, posts from Lily the Black Bear, North American Bear Center, and Bear Chat Picture Page may not come across your news feed.
