Holly Anniversary, Bear Attack Update - UPDATE December 27, 2017
Four years ago, little Holly, nearly a year old, arrived at the Bear Center. In that update, I wrote, “Holly is home—both to her new residence and to her genetic base.”

Now, at almost 5, she is in the spotlight with four fun old memories that Lily Fans and Pond Chatters found of her first months here.

On the recent bear attacks, I had a chance to talk to a few people today and am confident the DNR is doing nearly everything it can to get to the bottom of it. This is important because, without full knowledge, the public can be left scared and defensive, just like the attack bear was after everything he went through. For the bear, he was on the defensive after several attacks and was responding accordingly. For the public, the idea of a rogue bear can trigger a lot of killing of bears if people don’t know the full story and understand how rare these circumstances are. For me, I want to know the full truth to know the mind of this bear. This whole story can be very instructive and will likely be a chapter in the book I’m starting soon.

Fork Horn |
Out the window on this day that started as cold as minus 26°F and got up to minus 1°F, the hoary redpoll gave a good look at his definitive white, unstreaked rump patch; Broken Antler’s buddy Fork Horn was here peacefully chipping off his share of date mash from the hard frozen block; and the female hairy woodpecker presented a trimmer figure for the camera as she ate her share of suet.
Thank you for all you do.
