Sunny and Cold - UPDATE November 6, 2017

Out the window, the last open water of Woods Lake iced over at 19°F. It’s the smooth circle near the center of the picture.Woods lake - iced overWoods lake - iced over

Birds were pretty in the sun and hungry in the cold. Common redpolls were hungry for sunflower seeds, using the tooth-like point near the base of the lower beak to break open the shells.

Pine grosbeaks showed their color brilliantly.

When I stepped outside, hungry chickadees and red-breasted nuthatches landed on my camera or within inches of me to get sunflower seeds, which were popular today.

Word has it that as of last night, Quill was still out and about, visiting a feeder.
