Annie’s 5 Cubs and a Memory - UPDATE September 22, 2017
The bear highlight for this day came with a call from old friends saying Annie was there with her 5 cubs.
Annie and 5 cubsWe started driving. There they were. The picture is still not the iconic one I’m looking for. Annie is in the picture blurry to the far right. The cubs all look to be in good shape. My friends will call when they see them again.
The good memory is a video I didn’t know existed. Sent by a Lily Fan, the video shows Lucky and Honey making a truce for the winter. It shows how tentatively Lucky entered the den with Honey after a summer of being constantly chased up trees by her. Here’s the video

After a summer of chasing little Lucky up trees, etc., Honey declared a truce and invited Lucky to join her in the rock den that is visible from the viewing windows. On a sunny day in Dec. 2008, as Lucky walked by, Honey made sweet high-pitched grunts that sounded inviting. At least that's what Lynn thought watching from 20 feet away. Lucky apparently made the same interpretation. He cautiously approached this bear that had so often chased him. If our memory serves us right, they touched noses. Lucky then carefully edged past her to the back of the den and snuggled down next to her. The winter was spent with Lucky wedged between Honey and the back of the den. Their good feelings continued for a few days after they emerged in spring. They played and wrestled together like Lucky has done with Ted until this past summer. Shortly, though, Honey went back to her old attitude and has been wary and anxious toward Lucky ever since. Then on Nov. 26th, 2011, Honey chose to move into Lucky's den. With 4 man-made dens and several good natural dens to choose from, we never would have guessed that Honey would move in with 5 year old Lucky.
It felt good to remember that unusual time.
Thank you for all you do.
