Reminiscing - UPDATE December 3, 2016
Today, a man from Brazil interested in collaborating for bears and good conservation sent me a link to the Animal Reunions program that aired on
Ursula on 7/8/2014Animal Planet earlier this year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=herXyPYRoIIl. It features beautiful, calm Ursula starting at the 35:32 minute mark (click to start video at this point) and continuing until the end of the program at the 44:14 minute mark. The producers did a nice job, and it was nice to see gentle Ursula and her cubs. I like the way she looks in the picture.
Deer FawnAnother nice reminiscence came while looking up some background material. I ran into a Current Biography Magazine from October 1994 (Volume 55 (10): pages 47-51) that had a nice 4¼-page summary of my bear work through 1994 and a nice picture of Gerry on the cover. It had facts I had long forgotten. Whoever wrote it did a great job. I don’t think it is available online, although many libraries have Current Biography Magazine.
DeerOutside the window, a fawn lay down and chewed its cud while the mother nipped grass 20 feet away. At the feeder, the same male hairy woodpecker that flares its wings and stands its ground against red squirrels was cautious of a dead mouse on a suet block. It shied back and finally pecked a meal from the farthest part of the suet. A chickadee was braver, as you can see.
