Quill, Holly, Lucky - UPDATE November 22, 2016
With no Quill again, we are ever more certain he is shifting from eating to reducing his metabolism. The last couple times he came here, he sat in front of the feeder for several minutes before
Gray fox by the Quill househopping up onto it to get his formula. We wondered if that was a sign of slowing down and now think so more than ever. I remember in my old diversionary feeding study in the 1980’s seeing bears come in for their last visits being very finicky. We can be proud that Quill drank all his formula his last visit, showing it was a favorite.
A gray fox, eyes shining, trekked by Quill’s House last evening.
The Bear Center unveiled Holly and Lucky’s Den Cam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5sQnR_5CUA but saw there is a lot of tweaking to do to shut out extraneous light, including light from the hole on the opposite wall, to get a better view of the bears. Light areas tell the lens to shut down, making the bears darker. We want to see every detail possible. Holly gave up a perfectly good den to be with Lucky, and we want to see what unfolds.
Thank you for all you do.
