Highway Bear, Leaves, Asian Lady Beetles - UPDATE October 11, 2015
Male visitor on June 13, 2013On good advice, I decided not to include the pictures of the bear that was hit by a vehicle by the Bear Center. I looked at the pictures myself and will just include two pictures of a bear that it could be—a bear that visited the Bear Center during mating season 2 years ago on June 13, 2013. I’m not completely sure, though. So this one will remain a mystery.
Male visitor June 13, 2013The leaves in yesterday’s driveway picture were mostly from seven trees and tall shrubs. In the picture of 5 leaves, the two top leaves are red maple, and the bottom 3 leaves are mountain maple (2), and big-toothed aspen. In the picture of 4 leaves, they are round-leafed dogwood, willow, beaked hazel, and paper birch. All are from trees and shrubs in yesterday’s picture.
Today, the annual swarming of Asian Lady Beetles that has hit towns south of here in the last couple days hit the WRI. Suddenly, these pretty little beetles were landing on anyone who went outside. They were around the door and on the side of the cabin. Hundreds. Many were flying. Few birds will eat them. An Ely resident videoed them on her window at https://www.facebook.com/mrsfuss/videos/10206658976904883.
