Beautiful Day - UPDATE October 7, 2015

Misty sunriseMisty sunriseThe day started with a misty sunrise over the lake. Continued with nice sun on colorful leaves, as I finished up the PowerPoint Presentation I’ll be making at The Wildlife Society meeting in Winnipeg at 11:20 AM on October 19. It’s about the bears you know as seen with the Den Cams. The presentation will be similar to the 12-minute one Sue gave at the International Bear Conference back in 2013. That one is posted on bearstudy.org in the video section under Publications, or go to http://www.bearstudy.org/website/publications/videos/2865-black-bear-denning-behavior-in-northestern-minnesota-2010-2013.html.

Red Maple LeafRed Maple LeafI still haven’t gotten the pictures together I promised about the bear that was killed on the highway in front of the Bear Center a couple weeks ago.

Ted enjoying visitorsTed enjoying visitorsAt the Bear Center, Ted’s pen is twice as big now. Meanwhile, Ted is temporarily in a different pen where he is enjoying the people who meet him as part of the hourly behind the scenes tours.

Scott and I had a good time telling about changes in the Bear Center on Live at the NABC at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7juoIaARLP8.

At the WRI, dark-eyed juncos are doing their part to clean up leftover sunflower seeds, while yellow-rumped warblers look for insects.

An interesting video shows a brave little bull dog chasing 3 bears at http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2015/10/03/small-dog-called-hero-after-scaring-off-3-bears-at-home-in-monrovia. It shows the timid nature of an animal (bear) that is so often portrayed as ferocious.
