Ted et al. and WRI - UPDATE November 16, 2014
Black-capped chickadeeAt the Bear Center, Ted is in his den, rearranging his straw. We checked on him and his muzzle today, and he is fine. We’re relieved the swelling stayed down after his two courses of antibiotics were completed a couple weeks ago. The USDA inspector was also happy to see him fine when she visited 3 days ago.
Honey is deep in straw in her wooden window den. There are no tracks outside the dens of Lucky or Holly.
Blue jays eating suetIce cover is building on all but the deepest lakes.
At the WRI, no gray jays today, but blue jays ate their share of the suet when their preferred sunflower seeds got low. The blue jays didn’t share the suet as nicely as the gray jays did with the pair feeding together without a bad word. With the blue jays, one dominated while 3 waited, one of them close enough that the dominant blue jay had to open its beak to say “Close enough!” Black-capped chickadees snuck in when the blue jays were far enough away.

Light snow continues to fall. The mystery bear has left no tracks here for a couple days now. We hope he is snug somewhere doing what the other bears are doing.
Thank you for all you do.
