Thank You, Bears, and Ely - UPDATE November 14, 2014
Buck in yardLily Fans came through again! And the numbers prove it. Six hundred forty four donors from 7 countries made 1,005 donations and earned a 6th place prize of $500 on the medium leaderboard for a total of $55,450. The North American Bear Center finished 27th overall and 8th in the number of donations. HOWEVER, GiveMN technology went awry again this year and the numbers continue to change, so stay tuned for updates to these totals.
Thank you for your generosity and dedication to the educational goals we are all striving for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NsN3exhQbo&feature=youtu.be.
Bear at WRIAt WRI, it looks like winter on the ground, and shallow lakes like Woods Lake are frozen over. Big deep lakes like Eagles Nest Lake One is still only frozen around the edges.
The 2-3 inches of fresh snow showed bear tracks here again this morning—also wolf tracks. And a big buck strolled through the yard. He is not a usual visitor. I’ve never seen him before, and he was very wary of the figure in the window with a camera. It just gets excitinger and excitinger!
Ice reaching islandThen, as I was writing this, I heard a sound from the speaker attached to a sensitive outdoor microphone. The bear was here. He doesn’t run when he sees me in the window. Hence the picture. I still don’t know who he is.
A National Geographic online blurb about Ely at http://adventure.nationalgeographic.com/ adventure/trips/adventure-towns/ely-minnesota/ mentioned that Ely is my hometown. I suspect that is because of Lily Fans. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the author is a Lily Fan, which makes me say again, Thank You.
