Hunting Season, IWC Group, Tamaracks, and Ecology Hall - UPDATE October 12, 2014
IWC group listening to LynnBear Hunting Season here will be over by the time this is posted. We say that with some relief although we haven’t worried much the last few weeks because we haven’t seen any bear hunters and the few bears that came here occasionally did so at night. Opening day and the first half of September are the biggest worry. We’re thankful for the Lily Fan volunteers who were here working through that time.
IWC group at the NABCWe’re finding more and more ways to collaborate with the International Wolf Center. This morning was a joy meeting a busload of Wolf Center travelers, some of which are Lily Fans. For most of them, their main interest was wolves, but they showed their interest in bears with their good questions—adults and kids alike.
From there, it was a meeting about the habitat Randy Herrell is building with Judy Thon for the Northwoods Ecology Hall. After that it was a meeting with a team of Lily Fans who are focusing on the beaver exhibit at this point. They showed me the great 10-minute video they put together using highlights from the Beaver Cam we watched in fall 2000 through late winter 2001. No one would have guessed what goes on in a beaver lodge in the winter. Visitors will be surprised.
Tamaracks in their splendorTo top the day off, tamaracks were in maximum splendor on this sunny day, while yellow aspen leaves showered down from some trees. The color show won’t last much more than a week now.
Thank you for all you do.
