Watchful Den-watchers - UPDATE March 14, 2014
Cubs PlayAt 5:36 AM, a Den-watcher got a quick glimpse of the hindquarters of one of Juliet’s cubs. She leaned toward calling it a female and sent it on to us. We leaned the same way. One of these days we’ll know whether we and the den-watcher are extra astute or easily fooled. Will Juliet have 3 males or 2 males and a female?
Juliet chews footpadsA little after noon, a Den-watcher reported that Juliet was finally starting to chew on her foot pads. We had been wondering if any work on foot pads had been missed earlier, but what Juliet was doing today would have been hard to miss. The Den-watchers are undoubtedly the most experienced group ever to have witnessed behaviors in dens. No biologist, no matter what his or her academic degree, has ever watched undisturbed behaviors in wild dens more than these expert Lily Fans.
Cub bites Juliet's legAn article on the legal case came out yesterday at http://www.timberjay.com/stories/Bear-study-in-doubt,11395.
Seeing the article reminded us of the strong support we felt from Lily Fans throughout the administrative hearing February 24 to March 6.
Thank you for all you do.
