Construction, Channel 6, Click Chick, Give MN – UPDATE November 12, 2012

More blasting today - Nov 12, 2012More blasting today - Nov 12, 2012More blasting at the Bear Center today.  Beautiful, unweathered, Ely Greenstone rocks over a billion years old were revealed.  John Leonard saw the beauty and grabbed some for the bear foods garden along the sidewalk at the Bear Center.  That made us think Lily Fans might want some for their yards, too, so we’re hoping to put aside a pile of liftable rocks for people who come to the Lilypad Picnic next July.  We’ll see if the staff can do it.  We like the idea but are not sure if we have the manpower.

Shattered bedrock - Nov 12, 2012Shattered bedrock - Nov 12, 2012Duluth Channel 6, the Northland’s News Center, was at the Bear Center today to ask about Den Cams.  We told them that Lily, Jewel, and Ted would have them and that Lily should give birth in late January.  Her births so far have been on January 22, 2010 and January 21, 2011.  We are told the story will air tomorrow evening (November 13) at 6 and 10 PM.  The web site is www.northlandsnewscenter.com. They will also do a promo for the GiveMN day of giving on November 15.  To give, go to http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Bears.  It’s okay to give early, but the big push will be this Thursday the 15th

We saw the clip of Faith coming out of her den for a drug-free checkup on http://www.rightthisminute.com/video/bear-faith and saw the discussion.  High interest among the commentators but wrong assumptions.  One comment was the usual concern that a bear that has lost fear of a researcher will go up to other people and be killed.  That was our concern, too, when we started walking with bears in the mid 1980’s.  It turned out not to be a problem.  We also heard the comment that the researcher must be crazy to get that close to a wild and unpredictable wild animal.  We can’t attest to the researcher's sanity, or lack of it, but the record shows that neither he nor any of his co-workers have been attacked.  The discussion leader, nicknamed the Click-Chick, made the best comments.

Two more days before the Nov 15th Give to the Max Day!

Thank you for all you do.
