Bears Being Spotted – UPDATE April 24, 2012

Dot - April 24, 2012Dot - April 24, 2012Today, we began getting reports from people seeing study bears.  25-year-old Shadow and her 3 yearlings were seen as well as 4-year-old Jo and her yearling Victoria.  2-year-old Sharon was spotted—still with her bright ribbons from last fall.  June and her yearlings were also on the move but still deep in the boonies.

Dot looks back - April 24, 2012Dot looks back - April 24, 2012Mothers with cubs mostly laid low.  Juliet, Jewel, and Dot continued to confine their activities to small areas, but Cookie and her cubs moved 0.64 mile after staying in a small area for the last few days.  No mothers with cubs were spotted, as is usual in early spring when the cubs are less mobile.  Sue made a long trek to Dot today to give her a new GPS unit after the other one quit prematurely.

A lively spontaneous fundraiser took place on Lily the Black Bear Facebook page on April 21.  Although the fundraiser thread was accidentally deleted, we did catch some of the fun posts as it was happening and thank you for it.

Thank you for all you do.
