June has denned
June's cub peers out of den - Oct 18, 2011June and her 2 cubs are snug in a den full of soft moss. It’s not at the location where she has been resting these past couple weeks and it’s not the familiar den nearby. It’s a new, cushy den under the root mound of leaning trees. When we visited, they did no more than lethargically look out the entrance.
Lily with dirt on her nose - October 18, 2011We believe Lily is close to denning. It’s just 4 days short of when she denned last year (on the 22nd), and she had fresh dirt on her nose and feet today. We hope to learn more tomorrow.
Jewel may be in a den on private property. We are waiting for permission to enter. This is the area where she was earlier that has the good, gravelly soil for digging without hitting boulders.
Braveheart seems to have settled into an area but we are unsure if she has a den. Jo is still moving around some.
June's den - October 18, 2011With field work needing to be done, Sue will not be going to the Education Minnesota conference. Lynn will be leaving tomorrow to help the 8 Lily fans set up in the evening, to speak at 10:15 the next morning (Thursday) and then answer questions at the North American Bear Center booth through that day. Education Outreach is the message. The booth will be staffed by members of the EO Team, among others. Lynn and his wife Donna will be returning on Friday.
Thank you for all you do.
