Mystery bearA couple days ago Tasha was working on her very own den that she has used in recent years. She makes it bigger each year as she grows. Today, I learned that Holly took it over. We’ll see who ends up with it. I don’t know what Tasha will do. She does have time to dig another one, but I don’t know how many places there are in the enclosure where she can do that. Lucky says that whatever fall temperature it is, it is too warm for him with his winter pelage coming on. Red MapleOut the window at the WRI, some leaves look like gems on sunny days.
After seeing many bears old and new this summer and fall, yet another showed up yesterday—a male yearling or 2-year-old with light brown fur. Still puzzling over who it might be.
Today began grouse season when most hunters shift from bear-hunting to grouse hunting. We have not known of any hunters staying in this area after Labor Day.
