Tasha, Lucky, Color, and Mystery Bear - UPDATE September 19, 2020

Mystery bearMystery bearA couple days ago Tasha was working on her very own den that she has used in recent years. She makes it bigger each year as she grows. Today, I learned that Holly took it over. We’ll see who ends up with it. I don’t know what Tasha will do. She does have time to dig another one, but I don’t know how many places there are in the enclosure where she can do that. Here’s the half-minute video.

Lucky says that whatever fall temperature it is, it is too warm for him with his winter pelage coming on. I’ve seen bears in the wild put their wet paw on their head when they are in water trying to cool off as shown in this video. https://www.facebook.com/NorthAmericanBearCenter/videos/659909477972849/

After seeing many bears old and new this summer and fall, yet another showed up yesterday—a male yearling or 2-year-old with light brown fur. Still puzzling over who it might be.

Today began grouse season when most hunters shift from bear-hunting to grouse hunting. We have not known of any hunters staying in this area after Labor Day.

Thank you for all you do.
