Leaping Lucky - UPDATE June 6, 2018

I wish I knew his weight offhand, but Lucky surprised me in this video by lithely leaping up the trunk of the “Honey” tree. LuckyThere comes a point where black bears don’t or can’t climb trees. We’ll watch over the years as we keep weights to see when, and if, that happens with him. If anyone has data to disprove what I just said about very big black bears not climbing, please share it with me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If anyone can prove that a 600 or 700 pound black bear climbed a tree, I will have learned something. When we first got Ted and Honey in 2007 when they were 9 and 10 years old, they didn’t climb. Lucky with birdfeederThat’s what made us feel safe putting little Lucky in with them.
