“It has been a busy week at the Bear Center. The waterfalls took some time, but at least the big waterfall is working currently.
With the e-fence down, visitors are seeing bears up close. Holly took advantage of the Bear Cub Club children’s program with Petey on Friday and went nose to nose through the glass with them. The children’s ages range from 4-9. Their smiles and giggles spread contagious happiness throughout the Bear Center.
Tasha and HollyOn Tuesday our four bears had their health check by Dr. Petersen. All bears were given 100%. Ted greeted her with his usual happy grunts. Tasha showed off by dumping her water, Lucky let her tell him he was a handsome bear and Holly showed just a bit of her "attitude" by turning her back.
Bear weights: Lucky is maintaining at 400 pounds, Tasha is 208 pounds, Holly 250 pounds and Ted is 539 pounds
On Saturday morning it rained and was overcast but it was the perfect weather for a “bear photo shoot” with Jim Stroner. We began working with Tasha first, then Ted and Tasha. Holly and Tasha were next and finally Lucky, first by himself and then with Holly. Jim got some excellent shots.
Of course, while the girls were out together they played, sparred and climbed. At one point Holly jumped from the cedar tree to the aspen tree that Tasha was in. I included a photo of both bears in the tree (above), and here is a video of the action: https://youtu.be/fQ3TLFk-sTs
Thank you for all you do to further bear education.

Herring gull with bologna |
Rose-breasted grosbeak |
At the WRI, family breakup might be happening as would be expected this time of year. A bear that I don’t recognize yet but believe is a yearling showed up today and was nervous as is typical of yearlings newly on their own.
New color on the sunflower railing was a handsome rose-breasted grosbeak showing his big beak.
The herring gull named, “The Catcher” put in an appearance.
Also putting in an appearance was master photographer Jim Stroner taking pictures of the 4 bears for the calendar our designer is working on.
Thank you for all you do.
