Writing and Wildlife - UPDATE October 16, 2017
It was a day of writing--with pauses to click the camera when neighbors appeared out the window. Some of these neighbors haven’t stopped by for awhile. It’s been months for the pine marten but she knew her way around perfectly.
She pretty much ignored me. I wondered where she went. I walked out on the deck to see. There were her bright eyes by my shoe looking up at me through the decking. I hope she makes it through the trapping season like she did last year.
The female pileated woodpecker was the first pileated I’ve seen at the suet for months. With the new wildlife, leaves almost down, and frost on the ground, the change in season can’t be ignored. Fall is here. We’ll be checking dens soon.
A gray fox nonchalantly watched a doe browse mountain maple (Acer spicatum) leaves 10 feet away but ran when her fawn appeared.
Waiting to see if any bears appear. Last night it was a young adult male after dark and a younger bear this morning around dawn. I went outside to better see the one this morning, but it immediately left without a clue who it was.
Thank you for all you do.
