Bears and More - UPDATE June 16, 2017

The film team is ecstatic as they wind up filming for their documentary on how mothers raise their young. Today, Lily, Ellie, Ember, and Jewel were in front of the cameras plus cubs.Deer eatingDeer eating

Here at the WRI, it was mainly deskwork plus opportunities to educate through reporters who called. We’ll see how that goes. More on that later.

DeerDeerOut the window, it was the usual visitors (bears, gray foxes, woodchucks, deer, gulls, and other birds. The gulls have me trained to take periodic stretches by getting up and tossing a piece of bologna out the door like I’m throwing a Frisbie. Two of them now know to catch it in the air. Little yearling Ethel, Samantha’s daughter, gives me the best feelings. I haven’t seen Lily yet, although she is one of the stars for the filming.

At sundown a few minutes ago, a deer foraged in the grass, selecting broad-leaved plants, not grass. She devoured glowing plants while the low sun shined red through her ear.

Looking forward to the fun of the Black Bear Field Courses and the LilyPad Picnic.

Thank you for all you do.
