Miss Marten’s Eye, Holly’s Foot, Check-Up - UPDATE January 30, 2017

The reflection in Miss Marten’s eye shows where she was. Black Bear Field Course Participants will recognize it. She is on top of the bear feeder on the second floor deck just outside my desk window—less than two feet from the window. Pine marten eyeThe wide angle reflection in her rounded eye makes it look much farther away. The window is three panes of glass—each 18 inches wide, but they look much bigger. Beyond those are the double doors (6 feet wide) that are hardly visible and just look like a dark area. Beyond that, we are looking down the steps (not visible) out into the open to a big white pine. Beyond that is the 3-stall garage that looks small in the distance. The eye is cropped from last night’s picture of Ms. Marten.

Holly showed her left front paw at the 2:39 mark of this 6-minute video. She has the old pad off her main foot pad and from at least 4 of her toe pads as well. https://youtu.be/jZmC5BsnGk4

I went in for a check-up today, just because it was time; so I didn’t get a lot done. They froze a spot off the top of my head from sun exposure. They could hardly believe my blood pressure at 77 was 128/78. The doctor remarked that I have a strong heart. He suggested that I eat fewer bad carbs, more cruciferous vegetables, some meat for protein, and drink lots of water. I’m going to do that and exercise more by getting up from the computer and going downstairs for a drink of water several times a day. I feel like I’ll be around for more Black Bear Field Courses, perhaps a trip or two to show groups Alaskan brown bears in action close-up, write a book or two or three, and write up data.

Thank you for all you do.
