Prep for Bear Courses

Prep for Bear Courses

Update May 1, 2010 – 7:43 PM CST

From their GPS locations on Google Earth on our computer,

  • Lily and Hope shifted a tenth of a mile to a place similar to the one yesterday and again spent the day holding tight.  Probably the main food was large-leafed aster again.
  • Braveheart stopped sending GPS locations.
  • June and yearlings were less active than they have been.
  • And Jo did the same.

The limited information is because a hard-working group of volunteers helped us all day as we got ready for the Black Bear Field Study courses, which start tomorrow.  They helped with construction, cleaning, shopping, dump runs, making beds, etc.  Much appreciated.

Also, we appreciate Cathy Williamson for giving her $500 in Cub Food Store gift cards to us to help defray costs of food for the courses.  Those are the gift cards she won for being the randomly selected winner among those who picked ‘Hope’ as the winning name.  We thank Cathy and Cub Food Stores for this.  They know these courses are essentially our only source of support for the research, and this puts $500 more into the hopper for studying Lily and Hope and her clan.

The ‘Lily multi-tasking’ video posted today at http://www.bear.org/website/lily-a-hope/den-cam-video-clips.html is from April 28.

Thank you for your contributions.
