Another Exciting Sighting - UPDATE May 18, 2024

Greg and Mr. Marlys

Another bear we especially look forward to seeing and knowing she made it through another winter was seen two and a half miles away today but not long enough for a picture. It is 24-year-old Donna. She was with at least two of her three male yearlings. The third one could be off acting independent as one of them often did last year quite a bit. We’ll see if he shows up with her in the next few days. The picture of the two that stay with her most is from last fall on October 2, 2023 when they were still officially cubs.

The last report of 25-year-old RC with her lone male cub River was over a week ago. She showed up alone yesterday but still wasn’t getting any mating attention. If River is her last cub, I want to see if she still gets mating attention or if all that is in the past, too. Or maybe she’ll mate successfully one more time and potential suitors were just off taking advantage of the large-leafed aster sprouts that are covering more and more of the forest floor.
