Fleeing Deer, and a Fox with a Fetching Face - UPDATE December 20, 2022
Deer startled |
and bolts |
Red fox |
The wildlife high for the day started when a deer I was watching suddenly whirled and bolted. Five others did the same. I looked to see what scared them. Saw nothing. Looked out other windows. Nothing. Then below a window, movement—a fox. Was it the shy fox or the trusting, limping fox? It looked up at me with a fetching face, It had to be the one I know. He kept looking. I hurried to get his expected treat. I came back and started cranking open the window that was not part of our usual routines. He moved back. I dropped a piece of bologna, but he didn’t come. When I wasn’t looking, he disappeared. But he had let me know he was okay, and I was glad to see him.
Across the lake, a good layer of insulating snow on the beaver lodge is helping keep the below zero temperatures at bay.
Thank you for all you do,
