No Shots and Good Memories - UPDATE September 9, 2022

Lucy nursing her male cubs - 2021

We were glad not to hear any shots again this day with hunting hours now over.

by Deb Isaacs - 2016
A nice surprise was Bear Course participant Deb Isaacs sending me a picture that she and her husband Mike took back in 2016. It is of Samantha’s four cubs Ricky, Lucy, Fred, and Ethel—at least three, maybe four, of them showed up this year. Ethel was a little bit of a question. All four grew up as the kind of bears people don’t forget and look forward to seeing. Then, in 2021, Lucy had little Desi and Arnie, who now as yearlings are much the same. Desi, Lucy, and Fred, along with Jack, are four of the calmest, most trusting bears we saw this year. They came late because of the abundant wild food, but they finally did. Now we just hope they’ll once again make it through the next few weeks.

Thank you for all you do,
Lynn Rogers, Biologist, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center
