About noon, reporter Lila Seidman from the Los Angeles Times called asking the meaning of vocalizations by a mature male black bear up a tree in Yosemite National Park. They were short moans of fear. The bear was scared. Later she sent me the online piece she wrote that included a video of the bear with sound. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-10-20/bear-singing-in-tree-yosemite-national-park-video I’m always glad to be asked about things like this because harmless sounds are often misinterpreted.
Tomorrow at 7:30 PM Bear Time (CT), Doug Hajicek is giving me an opportunity to talk about bears for an hour and a half as part of a new talk show series on Untold Radio. It’s a little scary to think of talking that long, but one of the hosts is Doug Hajicek who has always been a good interviewer with me. We go way back. Some 20 years ago, he filmed and produced the documentary ‘The Man Who Walks with Bears” that first aired on Animal Planet on March 1, 2001. I’m counting on him to keep it lively.
