RC, Chloe, Casey, and Carter - UPDATE May 16, 2019
Resting in a white pine
RC guarding the base while cubs rest
What do bears do when there is little food in the forest? At this time of year, resting is in order. Roaming starts with green-up and the emergence of favorite greens on the forest floor. Around here, the major green, considering abundance, is big-leafed aster in its earliest, fuzzy, curled stage. But they’re not up yet, so for today, RC’s yearlings rested in the safe, shady upper branches of a big white pine with RC guarding the base.
