Thank you for all your supportive comments about Bucky. We all wanted the best for him. We all knew he was having a hard time. 
Barred owlI could only imagine how it must feel, and I didn’t know the half of it. I suspected what the veterinarian would say from what I’d read on the internet. I wish it would have turned out better. I’d never seen anything like that. The veterinarian said he didn’t know what caused it. A birth defect? An injury? His mouth was deformed, either from the malocclusion or maybe the malformation is what caused the malocclusion. We saw him off and on for about 3 weeks. A big thank you to Felicia Ortner for UPSing the remote live trap from Connecticut. She is a veteran of several Bear Courses and gives talks about bears in her area.

Out the window, a barred owl landed on the railing 10 feet from my chair. It looked at me as I grabbed the camera, focused and waited for it to look my way again for a detailed face picture. It didn’t, and I was too slow in capturing its take-off. It landed in a big white pine. In the big tree, it looks small in the picture, but they are nearly 2 feet tall from the tip of the tail to the end of the beak.
