Snow, Cubs, and the Bear Moon - UPDATE January 14, 2018
The big snow of the last couple days came at a time when cubs are being born in dens across the northwoods. A Native American saying is that snow during the bear moon means that another cub is born and the mother is calling for snow to wash the cub.
Broken AntlerThe bear moon is the moon of January when most cubs are born. This link to an update of a year ago tells more.

Tomorrow evening is a talk I’m looking forward to. It is to students and graduate students who gather for a tour in Minnesota to meet researchers and hear about their studies. This group is a treasure trove of potential interns who could each receive a $1,500 stipend and free lodging at the Vermilion Community College dormitory. These are students who want to know more and go beyond the norm by taking this tour. They ask stimulating questions and become hard-working interns. They help give the Bear Center its reputation for providing visitors good experiences.
Out the window, Broken Antler still has both his antlers, but his Fork-Horn buddy has lost his.
Thank you for all you do.
