Today, 4 days after the end of pine marten trapping season, the female pine marten came running past the window. I felt thankful 
Female pine martenfor this exciting bit of wildlife that will likely continue. She ran past a piece of suet that fell in the snow, whirled, snatched it up, and ran back where she came from. That was the wildlife highlight for today.
Pine marten with suetEarlier, at Zup’s grocery store, Pat the manager spotted me. I’d left a calendar for him a few days ago. He told me he scoured the store for me after that and I was gone. He asked if I had any pine martens coming. Yes. He said he had some old bacon for me in case I did. In the back refrigerated room, he’d written “Bacon for the Bear Man.” He even got my name right. He’s always been good.

(adult sizes small - 3X)The big action at the Bear Center is Lily Fans buying the new t-shirt with Ted, Lucky, Holly, and Tasha on it. This t-shirt is the biggest seller we have had in years. It looks terrific and is about the bears we know. The staff designed it and ordered it from a place that can fill re-orders fast. I can imagine what the LilyPad Picnic will look like with everyone wearing this t-shirt. I can imagine what group pictures will look like. I love it. I can imagine refrigerator magnets, greeting cards (Hi from Ely), etc. As soon as I saw this t-shirt, I liked it. It stands for the bears we know and says to the world how we feel.
