Tasha, Ted, Autumn - UPDATE October 12, 2016
After NABC Live, Scott and I went up to see if Tasha was near the rock den that Holly made and used a couple years ago and enlarged this fall.
TashaShe was, and Scott said she had backed into the den, apparently testing the fit and comfort.
Then we visited Ted. I wanted to get a close-up photo of him in his wooden den taken from ground level, but he got up before I could get down, so no photo. It was nice to hear his friendly grunts as he approached. Ted had a good morning. When he went out for his walk, he stopped by his neighbor Tasha's pen to eat her box lunch that she hadn't come to eat. He then investigated every corner of her pen, including the wooden den. He also visited the pond and checked out the straw by the little rock den.
Fall is the most beautiful time of year to me, and color was near its peak today. Maple leaves are falling but aspens are peaking and tamaracks are close.
Tamaracks and AspensAfter a brief blizzard, the dark cloud moved off to provided background to the yellow tamaracks and aspens as the sun came out to backlight them.
At the WRI, Brownie and his buddies came again but Sadie added to the mix, being friendly with Brownie even though it is well past mating season. I guess bears can be close, platonic friends just like people can. Kimani and her cubs didn't show, making us wonder if they have headed for a den.
Red Squirrels MatingThis afternoon about 2:20 PM, a cub that is smaller than any we know showed up alone, walking on three legs. It doesn't use its left front paw. It's so skittish, we're sure we don't know this cub. I've gotten two calls from other areas about orphaned cubs now after the hunting season, and we wonder if this is a third.
It was fun doing the interview for NABC Live with Scott today.
Thank you for all you do.
