A Look Back - UPDATE September 23, 2016

On this day at the desk, I was gathering materials for the Den Cam Permit Application, the book, and NPR and came across this letter from September 13, 2011 to Commissioner Tom Landwehr. http://www.bearstudy.org/website/images/stories/Documents/20110913_Landwehr_Letter_Den_Visits.pdf

Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010I wrote it to him a couple weeks after I finally met him. He had told me he was angry about my quest for protection for radio-collared bears. I thought a little bear-time together would create understanding. I didn't realize that he was already bent on ending the Den Cams and my research. I learned in court 2 1/2 years later that he didn't bother reading what I sent. But it brought back good memories today.

Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010With us now trying to get a Den Cam, this look back fits the day. The letter itself is a little long but recalls Lily, Hope, Faith, and details about what happened to Jason. It tells how we work. What brought back especially good memories were the updates and pictures at the end of the letter. They are from the exciting times in early 2011 when we visited Lily's den and saw the family (Lily, Hope, Faith, and Jason). The pictures show Lily (radio-collared) and Hope on October 25, 2010, getting the den ready where Faith and Jason were born on January 21, 2011.

I very much want to use Den Cams like the Court of Appeals supported.

Thank you for all you do.
