Holly, Ted, Spot - UPDATE September 18, 2016

Holly is a busybody den maker these days. It's like she can't have enough dens. We remember Lily attempted several dens before moving to the one where she brought us all together. Holly, surrounded by strawHolly, surrounded by strawShe knows what straw is all about.

I like the picture the staff sent of Ted surrounded by beauty at the Bear Center. It's a perfect place for him at this time in his life. Food, safety, variety, and water to soak in. When he decides, he also can have rest and seclusion punctuated by the joy of people. From his reactions, the moments that make his days are the behind-the-scenes tours when he can interact with people and show his pleasure with friendly greetings.

Ted in his beautiful homeTed in his beautiful homeIn the woods, we were delighted to get a visit from Spot after worrying about him since September 10. Spot is the 2 year old son of Summer, Grandson of Shannon, Great-Grandson of Donna, Great-Great-Grandson of Blackheart, Great-Great-Great-Grandson of Shadow.

We still believe Sven is gone. We don't know about Kurtis. I'm hoping we see him next spring to see how he is healing. Kurtis received a wound 4" deep and 10" long that appeared to be from a spear on the first day of hunting season.

A strange black bear scat had us curious today. It was from a bear that has been gone for a few days. Then we saw that the black was just oxidation of the surface. Inside was wild vegetation. He apparently was not at a baiting site--just out foraging safely.

The Spot sighting news makes our day.

Thank you for all you do.
