Tasha and Critters - UPDATE June 13, 2016

Tasha continues to make progress. Last evening she checked out the bunker den several times during the heavy rainstorm though she is still leery about spending any amount of time inside. Tasha looking adorableTasha looking adorableCaretakers visit her frequently throughout the day with treats to earn her trust. We saw Holly visit her from the fence, Tasha seemed calm - progress. Today Tasha had her first “bearsicle” (frozen cranberry juice, fruit & nuts), a Lily fan caught her on video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVS9GveVs0U.

This morning, staff cut down a dead tree in the bear enclosure that was close to the fence line. The tree will remain in the enclosure for the bears to tear open and look for ants.

Critter time continues to be a big hit in the Northwoods Ecology Hall. Children love learning about our blue-spotted salamanders (Ambystoma laterale), northern leopard frog (Lithobates pipien), painted turtle (Chrysemys picta), and American toad (Anaxyrus Americanus).
