Today at the NABC - UPDATE June 11, 2016
The staff, volunteers, and interns are going to have another great learning opportunity this summer with our new yearling Tasha bear. We are all excited to have her at the NABC. Lucky and Holly forageFor the first 30 days (approximately) she will be in the "bunker" den enclosure getting used to her new home. How do we get Tasha to trust her caregivers and become part of the Ambassador bear family? It will be a process that will unfold over the coming days and weeks. Will the process be similar to what was done with Lucky and Holly when they arrived at the NABC? Only time will tell us as we get to understand Tasha. She has her own cam and you can watch her as she explores her new home at www.bear.org under the Live Cameras tab. http://www.bear.org/website/live-cameras/live-cameras/tasha-s-cam-live.html
TashaTasha arrived on June 6 and we can already see progress. Check out this video of her running around the enclosure this morning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCha613zL4M.
Lucky on cabin denAs Sharon, the curator, and staff work with her we will see her begin to trust the caregivers and become more confident of her surroundings. She is already responding to her name and will come to the fence for treats. She would rather have just a few folks approach her at a time, unlike Ted bear who always likes a crowd.
As you can see in this picture Holly and Lucky were foraging together. The month of June is mating season and it appears that Holly and Lucky are an "item."
Ted taking a showerTed continues to have his time in the big enclosure in the morning, he lets us know when he wants to return to his Chalet. He enjoys all the extra attention he receives as visitors come back to see him during our popular Behind the Scene tours.
Thank you all for supporting the NABC and the WRI.
