Fern’s Cubs, Herbie’s Mate, and Ted - UPDATE May 14, 2016
As the landowners stood looking at Fern and her cubs this morning, they were both saying they probably wouldn’t get much done today with what was happening
Fern with her cubsin their yard. Fern brought her cubs in. The man said they were as cute as they could be and he might have gotten pictures of them. He sent them to me for the update. So cute.
Fern with her cubsThen Herbie (Fern’s brother) came in with his mate. The cubs scampered up a white pine with Fern right behind. Didn’t she know it was her brother? We always say that black bears run first and ask questions later.
Then they called me. I zipped over but couldn’t get anything decent of Fern and the cubs up the tree but saw Herbie and his mate in good light.
HerbieI am looking forward to taking Black Bear Field Course participants over there. That feeding site has a lot of action and the landowners are happy to share the joy.
Herbie's mateI didn’t recognize Herbie’s mate, and she apparently didn’t recognize any of us. She is skittish but calming down a bit. She probably is not a Shadow Clan bear. The picture of nice Herbie shows the snow from yesterday. It is melting slowly with the thermometer creeping only a little above freezing. 36°F now at 7:56 PM.
>Ted is doing fine and looks good patrolling his home. Ted has never mated.

Thank you for all you do.
