Ted, Entryway - UPDATE February 2, 2016

Polar Bear - WRI file photoTed and Honey are quietly passing the winter content in their own dens while Lucky and Holly are more active with their snuggling and playtimes.

HoneyHoneyOff site, workers are expertly hewing logs for the new entryway as part of the Bear Center’s extreme makeover. Also off site, Scott Edgett’s friend Don Taylor is building exhibit platforms to replace the old carpeted panels. What a difference that will make! Up front in the Bear Center, Scott and the staff went crazy with the front counter where people come in. TedTedThey split it in two so people come in one way, go out through the retail store, and exit between the separated parts of the counter. With this Go Get ‘Em staff, frugal change is the order of the day. I’m very excited. It’s going to turn out beautifully. I look forward to Lily Fans seeing all the changes this summer and to the LilyPad Picnic which is July 22-24, 2016.

The polar bear is a candidate for the Upper Wall. It was on the tundra around Halloween in October 1982 when bears gather near Churchill to wait for ice to form so they can hunt seals. Polar bears are the most carnivorous of the bears and are reputed to stalk people. However, biologists who spend time among them in areas where they gather to eat beached whale carcasses or are waiting for ice to form say the bears don’t like to take risks that could leave them injured and unable to hunt seals.
