Their Warmest Day in Over Four Months - UPDATE March 10, 2015

Juliet's cubs - March 10, 2014Juliet's cubs - March 10, 2014With the temperature hovering between 20° and 47° above zero F, Juliet and cubs had their warmest day since November 4, 2013. Cubs are visible throughout the two highlight videos. The cub whose eyes are open was by far the most active—so active that Juliet gently reined him or her in from time to time.

The active cub showed full round eyeshine from straight on or dark-looking eyeballs when seen from the side. For the other cub that was frequently visible, I saw no slits of shine or darkness. See what you think.

Around 2:30 PM (March 10, 2014), with the temperature up near 47° F, Juliet licked the first meltwater from the den wall that we have seen. Juliet and cub - March 10, 2014Juliet and cub - March 10, 2014She also flicked her tongue onto the cubs from time to time with the same motion we have seen when other mothers removed drops of meltwater that fell from the ceiling .

The family was remarkably quiet except when the cubs had a hard time reaching nipples, which suggests that Juliet was in a position that made that difficult or that nipple order is not fully worked out yet. Eventually, though, all fell to contented nursing with the motor-like hum.

Good views abounded.
