Ted’s Swelling Down - UPDATE October 28, 2014
Ted posing in March 2010Ted’s swollen muzzle responded to the antibiotics and now has little swelling, but staff and veterinarians are continuing to evaluate the situation to decide if they should tranquilize him and remove a tooth.
Today was a mixture of rain and snow, making us think about winter. We hope to check more bear dens before snow comes and before deer hunting with rifles starts on November 8.
A Lily Fan sent a link to an old National Wildlife Magazine article about our bear research back in the days of 2-year-old Gerry in 1991. http://www.nwf.org/news-and-magazines/national-wildlife/animals/archives/1992/he-s-just-one-of-the-bears.aspx.
Another fan reported that she visited 25-year-old Gerry at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina a few days ago. And said she was fine.
Someone asked how the WRI thermometer recently went from $100,927 TO $127,000 in a day. That’s because we switched thermometers. $100,927 number was for the legal fund, as shown on the legal fund thermometer. Then the time came that we had to pay the legal bill. At that point, we used all the money donated by Lily Fans (and much more). With the legal fund now down to zero, we closed the account and switched the thermometer back to the old research thermometer which showed the $127,000 donated from September 2010 through June 2013. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your generous, much-needed donations to the legal fund these past 16 months. As you know, we are appealing the DNR’s decision. The law firm has agreed to work on the appeal for free.
Thank you for all you do.
