Work Day! - UPDATE October 4, 2014
Handsome TedAt the Bear Center, 15 volunteers and staff gathered to work hard cleaning leaves, silt, and stones out the pond. Everything was perfectly organized, including people to lead behind the scenes tours for dozens of visitors. The team kept at the cleaning until the only thing left in the pond was a couple cups of sand and maybe a gallon of water. Now, the challenge will be to fill the pond before winter to protect the concrete liner.
TedAmazingly, after 7 hours of nonstop work, everyone was smiling and happy as we ate and felt good about all all we’d accomplished. Great group.
Ted topped off the day with a look at Lynn’s camera in soft light that showed off his eyes and his new coat. What a good bear!
The leaves of pin oak trees are now brilliant red, adding back some of the color lost by the falling maple leaves.
At the WRI, an unusually trusting young yellow-rumped warbler, probably tired and hungry from a day of migrating, allowed a photograph from a few feet away as it snatched a damselfly from a blade of grass.
This was an invigorating day of exercise and fun with Lily Fans. As the sun set, a hard rain hit as deer foraged for “deer apples” scattered in the yard by Lily Fans.
