Happy Thanksgiving! – UPDATE November 27, 2013

Pecan piePecan pie  It’s a time of getting together and giving thanks.

Tomorrow will begin for us with pie for breakfast.  Sue brought the tradition of Thanksgiving Pie Breakfast with her from New England and we are glad of it!  Bear Center folk and friends with gather for chicken pie then quickly move on to custard, pumpkin, pecan, cranberry, blueberry, lemon meringue, key lime, etc.  Pies galore!

Tomorrow afternoon, Bear Center folk and friends will gather at the home of a bear-friendly couple in the study area for the annual Thanksgiving feast.  Potluck dishes will round out the meal.   Judy McClure is cooking the turkey this year, bought by the couple.  We’re thankful for the warm support that is so widespread in the community.

This evening, Lynn’s daughter and family (including the grandkids) come to stay with Lynn and Donna for a few days of eating and fun.

A few days ago, 6 Bear Center folk shared a pew at the 20th annual Thanksgathering at Ely’s Ledge Rock Community Church where Judy McClure is the pianist.  She and 2 guest pianists (a trio of pianos) played a medley of old gospel hymns for a rousing congregation sing-along.  The packed congregation was people from all the churches in Ely, catholic and protestant alike.  Each church participates in the service with special music or a reading, followed by food in the church basement.  The hymns are the ones many of us grew up with.  Lynn and Donna had fun putting their heads together and singing their own duet drowned out by the congregation.  Fun.  Like a date.

It’s a good time of year.

We hope all Lily Fans who live where Thanksgiving is a tradition will have a warm time of sharing and giving thanks.  One of the things we are thankful for is Lily Fans and all that Lily Fans have made possible for bear research and education.  Likely no update tomorrow.

Thank you for all you do.
