Lily Sleeps In – UPDATE October 28, 2013

20131028 Red-breasted Nuthatch Red-breasted Nuthatch  When Lily’s signal disappeared into the den yesterday at 2:47 PM, she must have been tired.  The signal didn’t appear again for nearly 24 hours—at 2:17 PM today.  She remained out until at least 5:08 PM—the time of the last GPS transmission.  When we visit her to change her GPS batteries, we’ll see how much raking the family has done.  The trail cam near the den may show us if Eli and Ellie helped with any raking.

This male red-breasted nuthatch made several passes within a foot of Lynn’s head to say “Get the seeds,” so Lynn did as he was told.  This nuthatch must have been here last year.  The other nuthatches wouldn’t land.

Thank you for all you do.
