Bears on the Move – UPDATE August 18, 2013

Jim and Aster - Aug 17, 2013Jim & Aster - Aug 17, 2013Aster moved back into her territory this evening and is now over 5 miles as the crow flies from where we found her last evening.  Meanwhile, Jewel disappeared from the map for 4 hours—then she popped up further south than we would ever think to look for her.  It will be interesting to follow her travels vicariously via computer.

In contrast, June’s GPS unit has been sending locations from a fairly small area of swamp for 2 days.  She’s due for a battery change, so we’ll check on her tomorrow and hopefully find out what’s been keeping her there.

Wild foods are still abundant but not as clustered as earlier in the summer.  Some bears are beginning to stop by feeding stations in the community to ‘top off’ after a day of foraging.

Thank you for all you do.
