Hopeful – UPDATE July 28, 2013

BlueberriesAs we wind down toward the hearing tomorrow, we're hopeful that truth will win out.  Sue will be in St Paul for the 9:00 AM hearing.  Lynn is teaching the Black Bear Field Study Course that began today.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune ran a supportive article at http://www.startribune.com/sports/outdoors/217258631.html?page=all&prepage=1&c=y#continue.  The Duluth News Tribune ran a great, supportive cartoon that compares our publishing record with the DNR’s publishing record on its moose studies.  Very clever cartoon that gave us a good laugh.

Jim Stroner worked extra hard this weekend to get Aster, Jewel, Faith, and Ursula back on the map.  All bears in the western portion of the study area are sending data once again.  Once the ‘must do’ fieldwork was accomplished, he walked with June and her cubs to see which foods they were targeting right now.  He found them pulling down pincherry trees to access the berries.

Your words of support and encouragement have meant a lot during this time.  We may just win this yet.

Thank you for all you do.

—Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center
